Zendaya Dressed Like a Modern Princess in Valentino Haute Couture at the 2021 Critics’ Choice Awards

Award season continued last night with the Critics’ Choice Awards, which was ongoing at the same time Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s big Oprah interview aired. But despite the coronavirus pandemic drastically altering the red carpet and making it largely remote, Zendaya and her stylist Law Roach still went all out with how she dressed for the ceremony. Zendaya has two looks from Valentino, both glamorous but very different in their vibe.

Zendaya’s real showstopper look was modern princess-esque from Valentino Haute Couture’s spring/summer 2021 collection: The actress wore a ivory silk crêpe top and fluo orange scuba, silk, organza and taffeta skirt with BVLGARI jewelry.

Her second look, which Zendaya wore while accepting her SeeHer award at the ceremony, was more glitzy. Zendaya wore a black gown with sequin embellishments from Valentino’s pre-fall 2021 Prêt-à-Porter collection and BVLGARI high jewelry diamond earrings. Neither Roach nor Zendaya have shared a full-length photo of that outfit yet.

Zendaya was nominated for a Best Actress Critics’ Choice Award for her work in Malcolm & Marie. Promising Young Woman‘s Carey Mulligan ultimately won that category.

Zendaya’s SeeHer award was a special honor though, meant to recognize “a woman who embodies the values set forth by the SeeHer movement to push boundaries, defy stereotypes and acknowledge the importance of authentic portrayals of women across the entertainment landscape,” E! reports.

Zendaya, in her acceptance speech, expressed honor at being recognized and the utter gratitude she feels now for every moment.

Per E!, she said in her speech:

I’m going to start by saying thank you so much to John David Washington incredibly lucky to have you as a friend, but also a scene partner. Thank you to the Critics Choice Association for this incredible honor and SeeHer. This means so much to me, I think, as I was thinking of things to say the only real thing I can think of is, is gratitude.

This word kind of keeps coming to my mind, especially with the year that everyone has had to continue to be grateful for every single moment, big and small, to be grateful and for the people in our world and in our life, that make the work we do possible, to continue to make sure we hold on to our loved ones a little bit tighter, make sure we call them acknowledge them and tell them we love them. And, and take in moments like this and I absolutely would not be here if it weren’t for the incredible women that have paved the way for me to be here so also extremely grateful for those women.

So, yes, this is very very special. And thank you so so much. And not to reuse the word but I am incredibly grateful for this moment.
